Friends

Casual friends chat about the weather
And never spend any time together,
They wave at you and say hello
But that’s about as far as they go

Fair weather friends like it when the sun it out
But when it rains they’re nowhere about,
Fair weather friends will share a beer
But when trouble hits, they disappear,

Fickle friends can’t make up their mind
Wishy washy and not always kind,
They are always waiting for another bus
Those kind of friends are not worth the fuss

True friends are always there for you
They pick you up when you’re feeling blue,
Dependable, loyal and ready to share
They are the friends who really care,

True friendship is a seed that has been planted
Nurture it well and don’t take it for granted,
If you tend it carefully, it will grow
And blossom even in the snow.

  1. You've described the various aspects of friendships so cleverly in verse. Love it, Cathy! Thanks for joining the Blog Carnival too. ☺

    1. Thanks, Debbie. Loni pointed out that virtual online friends are in a different category. They're not casual friends and not true friends but somewhere in between as we don't see each other every day and know each other that way but we can still share and be supportive to each other.

I was happy Corinne did her magic and let me join the blog carnival as I was slow getting the poem done.

    2. Yes, I responded to the online friends comments as well. I can honestly say that two are real friends, after having met them in person. Also met a third one and that was a bit disappointing, but we still talk once in awhile. I'm glad Corinne reopened the link too. ☺

  2. I think I've had a friend of each type and fortunately more in the "true friends" category. Loved the verse. :)

  3. Another wonderful poem! I guess internet friends fall into the casual friend category? Or does virtual time count?

    1. Gee, good question, Loni. I should have included online friends as they are a different category altogether and deserve their own special poem. I wouldn't say they are the same as casual friends and yet they are not true friends since we don't see them in person, but they are somewhere in between. I find my online friends often know me better than my offline ones do.

    2. This is a bit of a grey area, yes? I have met three of my online friends in person and two of them were great. The third, well, let's just say, it wasn't as wonderful as I thought it would be, but we still keep in contact. Not as frequent though.
