F is for Forgive and Forget #AtoZChallenge

Don’t you know you’ve become a drudge?
Why are you hanging onto a grudge?
After years of your grudge, your heart is cold
Time is passing, you’re getting old,

Let go of always being right
You will gain a new insight,
Forgive and forget is the best approach
Nobody is perfect or above reproach,

I only wish that you could see
Your connection to humanity,
You can change, it’s never too late
Practice love instead of hate,

Bitterness leaves a wound like the sharpest knife
Forgive and forget, and embrace your life.

I am participating in the A to Z Challenge writing a blog post for every day in April, except Sundays. http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/

  1. This is something we all need to practice. Forgive and forget!

    1. So true, Shilpa. I had my brother in mind when I wrote this as he has made it a life long vow to never speak to me. Such bitterness. I have forgiven him just for my own peace of mind.

  2. The only one affected by bitterness is ourselves and if we want to move on we need to forgive. In my view forgiveness is not an action but a state of being.

    1. So true, Suzy. A state of being. I like that. I had my brother in mind when I wrote this since he has harboured a grudge against me for 21 years and decided he would not speak to me every again. My mother was the same way, unfortunately. Life is too short for such nonsense, I think. Thanks for your comment.

  3. "Time is passing, you’re getting old." So true! Life is too short to hang on to grudges, although some things are difficult to forgive. Best to move on and not let them fester. Loved the poem, Cathy!

    1. Thanks, Debbie. I had my brother in mind when I wrote this. He has vowed to never speak to me again for a letter I wrote one year scolding him for being a workaholic and neglecting my parents. I asked forgiveness many times but he wouldn't budge so I gave up. It will make it difficult when decisions need to be made about my father in the future. Not looking forward to that. His loss I find since he has no relationship with his nephews at all.

    2. That's a sad situation, Cathy. :( My sympathies! Maybe your brother will come around, eventually. Sometimes, getting older makes people more sentimental.

    3. I hope you're right but I'm not holding my breath. He's 55 already and doesn't show much signs of changing. At least he goes to visit my dad and helps him with projects so that's good. Eventually he plans to retire there and live with my dad and inherit the house. Good for my dad to have him there to help, I guess but not good for me visiting. A hard situation without easy answers.
