W is for Weight/Wait #AtoZChallenge

Sara stepped out of the shower and onto the scale. She frowned at the numbers that screamed out at her as if taunting her.

Winter had not been kind to her weight.

She pinched the extra rolls that jiggled around her stomach. It felt like an extra heavy sweater that she couldn’t remove. How Santa could be jolly with his little round belly was a mystery. Her stomach was just plain gross.

Looking at her full length reflection in the mirror, she felt nauseous. Who was that middle-aged fat lady staring back at her?

She peered into her closet wondering what to wear. All her summer clothes seemed to have shrunk while they’d been in there for the past six months.

That was it. She would join the gym and start a diet right away this very minute.

She peered into the fridge looking for some healthy fruit and vegetables to snack on. There wasn’t much to pick from, a few bruised apples and some limp celery. She would have to go grocery shopping.

Then she spied some chocolate cake left over from Brad’s birthday. She’d better finish that cake off first so she wouldn’t have all that temptation.

Standing over the sink, she managed to gobble up the cake in five minutes flat while the family was still asleep. After wiping the tell tale chocolate off her mouth with her sleeve, she took a broom and quickly swept the cake crumbs off the floor.

She’d wait and start her regime tomorrow.

  4. I threw my scale away long ago. Still have the weight issues, but they don't bother me as much. Diet starts Monday. ☺ So many of us can relate to this one, Cathy. I have clothes in 4 different sizes.

    1. I was doing your trick of writing fictionally in the third person but Sara is definitely me. I added some weight over the winter and it doesn't feel that great. I've tried Weight Watchers many times and lost weight but it all comes back eventually. I think it's time for me to throw away the scale, too, and just live healthy and be content with my bigger size. The hubs' family are all obsessed with weight and are always on diets so that doesn't help with my already fragile self esteem when I visit. UGH! Where's that chocolate cake? Hahah! And I'm an emotional eater which doesn't help!

    2. It's easier to write in the third person, don't you think? It must be rough to be around such weight-conscious people. Emotional eating has been my downfall, too and lost weight always came back. Some of us aren't meant to be thin, I guess. Life is too short to count every calorie, every minute of the day.

  5. Yep, those clothes have a nasty habit of shrinking and the scales they always lie :)
