Z is for Zeal

Image
Zealous, zappy and full of zest As dancers go, Zoey’s the best, With a wiggle of her hips, she shows such zeal Zoe is a dancer who can really feel, She dances across the stage with ease Light and ethereal, just like a breeze, Ballet, zumba, she does it all And she doesn’t ever fall! This April I am participating in the A-Z Challenge  and the NaPoWroMo Challenge  NaPoWriMo   where I will write a post and a poem for each letter of the alphabet each day in April except for Sundays.

Y is for Young

Image
I wish I was young once more, with the wisdom of age, I’d make sure to open every door and write on every page, I’d worry less and have more fun I wouldn’t care what people thought, If I failed at what I’d done I wouldn’t get distraught, I’d be in the moment and be more caring I’d be less selfish and be more sharing, I’d reach out instead of holding back I’d get back on course when I got off track But since I can’t be young again At least I can be young at heart, I will follow my own advice And make a fresh new start. This April I am participating in the A-Z Challenge  and the NaPoWroMo Challenge  NaPoWriMo   where I will write a post and a poem for each letter of the alphabet each day in April except for Sundays.

X is for ????

Image
If X is such an important letter Why aren’t there more X words? W is for Winter

Image
Feeling badly for my poor parents in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia today having yet another snowstorm on April 27th! Yikes! Here is a photo of what it looks like there. I dedicate this poem to them as they have had a humdinger of a winter this year. I used this photo my dad took of the snow for my poster today so photo credits go to him. Canadians love to complain about winter It gets under our skin like a great big splinter, “Is it cold enough for ya?” Canadians say As common a phrase, as “Have a Nice Day!” Winters in Canada are long and cold They wear us down and make us feel old, Trudging through great big drifts of snow We forget that there is green grass below, We look forward to spring like a lovesick teen So eager to see things budding and green, To feel the warmth and enjoy the sun To ditch the coats and have some fun, We Canadians like to think we’re tough But even we have had enough, We’re so sick of never ending snow Come on Winter, it’

V is for Village

Image
I found it funny that I really struggled to write this short non-rhyming poem and yet the rhyming ones seem to just pour out of me. Any time is a time for rhyme! Connected by the Internet, The world has grown smaller. We may live in different countries, With different cultures, races, languages and religions. United in our shared humanity, We are all part of the Global Village. U is for Ukulele

Image
Ursula got fired from the underwear store She burst into tears and ran out the door, Out in the rain she ran, with no umbrella Along came an extremely handsome fella, “I’m Ulysses,” the gorgeous hunk said and he held an umbrella over her head, “I’m Ursula and I just got fired I’m very unhappy and awfully tired.” “I know a way to brighten your day.” He took out a ukulele and began to play “Unbelievable,” Ursula cried, ”Can I try it too?” “Sure, I just happen to have a uke for you.” “Fantastic,” she said and began to play Her sadness started to fade away, They sang almost every song they knew A small crowd gathered and grew and grew, The group sang every verse and every refrain And when they were done, they started again, They played their ukes til dawn’s early glow They may still be playing, for all I know! This April I am participating in the A-Z Challenge  and the NaPoWroMo Challenge  NaPoWriMo   where I will write

T is for Tree

Image
Ode to the Tree You give birds shelter and somewhere to rest In spring you give them a place to nest, Squirrels leap from limb to limb You must feel like a workout gym, You’re always patient and never complain Not in snowstorms or heavy rain, So strong and robust, you stand so steady Always on guard and always ready, You start to shake in the heavy gale You rock and quiver as it starts to hail, Fearless and tough, you brave the storm While keeping the birds and squirrels warm You shelter the house from the summer heat You deaden the noise from the busy street, Selfless tree so patient and true Thanks so much for all you do! This April I am participating in the A-Z Challenge  and the NaPoWroMo Challenge  NaPoWriMo   where I will write a post and a poem for each letter of the alphabet each day in April except for Sundays.

R is for Rhyme

Image
I can’t stop rhyming whatever I do Rhyming words come out of the blue, R is for Raisin, raspberry and Rick So many R words for me to pick, Reduce, reuse, recyle and reason There is an R word for every season, Rhododendron is a fun R word The word ridiculous sounds absurd, Some words with r that resonate Relax, reprieve, and rejuvenate, Rose, redemption and respect Radiant, royal, and reflect, Even if I fancy myself the next Dr. Seuss Most people view me as a crazy recluse So off I go to rhyme in my reverie Reality isn’t all it’s cracked up to be! P is for Perfectionism

Image
How many of us fall for the perfection trap? It’s easy enough to do, I’m here to say it’s a load of crap It’s time to be kind to you, Perfection is impossible to attain So you might as well not try, Perfectionism can drive you insane And plague you til you die, Instead you should try to improve and grow While having fun on the way, If you falter, just go with the flow Tomorrow is another day! Accept yourself and don’t compare Spread your wings and fly, Love yourself and be aware Perfection is a lie! This April I am participating in the A-Z Challenge  and the NaPoWroMo Challenge  NaPoWriMo   where I will write a post and a poem for each letter of the alphabet each day in April except for Sundays.

O is for Oatmeal

Image
Every morning Owen eats his oatmeal without fail He gobbles up a gigantic bowl, but he’s skinny as a rail, He pours on milk and whistles a tune Stirring and stirring with a great big spoon, Smack, smack, smack, and slurp, slurp, slurp Drip, drip, drip, and burp, burp, burp, He scrapes to the bottom to get the sugar beneath And then when he’s done, he puts in his teeth, How can he stand the texture, it’s like eating glue? So slimy and bland, with a grayish hue, Doesn’t he know how disgusting it seems? I think I’ll stick with my Coco Puff Dreams! This April I am participating in the A-Z Challenge  and the NaPoWroMo Challenge  NaPoWriMo   where I will write a post and a poem for each letter of the alphabet each day in April except for Sundays.

M is for Music

Image
For this poem, I wrote it in a ballad form and tried to use lots of M words. Max , the musician , played music in the square People often passed on by, as if he wasn’t there, No one gave him money or paid him any mind Until Maura appeared, a girl both fair and kind, She stopped for a moment and listened to his song He looked up with surprise when she began to sing along Her voice was smooth like mocha fudge, he could listen to her all day He fell in love with her that instant, and asked if she would stay, A massive crowd gathered round, to listen to her sing Max proposed to her that night, even though he had no ring, They married in the month of May in the market where they met They were so swept away by love, they barely noticed their debt, Crowds came to hear Maura sing and she became a star People came from all around, some even came quite far, Finally their music paid off and began to make them rich And now they have three kid
