O is for Object #AtoZChallenge

I'm a person who loves to play with words in the English language. I am grateful to be an English speaker. Must be so challenging for others to learn English with all the inconsistencies and strangeness of words such as tough and through for example.

I find the word Object an interesting word with two definitions that are completely different depending on if you use it as a noun or as a verb.

ob·ject
noun
ˈäbjekt/
  1. 1.
a material thing that can be seen and touched.

"he was dragging a large object"

  2. 2.
a person or thing to which a specified action or feeling is directed.

"disease became the object of investigation"

verb
əbˈjekt/
  1. 1.
say something to express one's disapproval of or disagreement with something.

"residents object to the volume of traffic"

I decided to play with the word "Object" for today's challenge and came up with this poem.

You tell me I’m an object of your desire
You tell me I’m an object of your affection,
You tell me that I set your heart on fire
You tell me you’ve lost direction,

You tell me I’m the object of your love
You tell me I’m the object of your dreams,
You tell me I’m like an angel from heaven above
With eyes that shine like moonbeams,

I’m not an object, you know that’s true
I’m a woman who has a keen mind and a voice,
I crave freedom that doesn’t include you
Accept that I have made my choice,

All this flattery is a complete surprise
What game are you trying to play?
I object to being an object in your eyes
Now I wish you would go away!

  1. 'Object' is such a multi-faceted word. Good for her, objecting to being an object. ☺

  2. I loved the way you used the word. The last two lines esp. are so relevant in today's world, with women being objectified.

  3. Hello again, Cathy! I finally caught up with 'O'! :P

How exactly do you pick your word for the day though? I am curious. I could have never thought of writing a whole post (let alone a poem) on the word 'object'!

Btw, my O post is @ A to Z of Happiness: Optimism.
    Do visit it.
    Happy AtoZing!
