O is for Oatmeal

Every morning Owen eats his oatmeal without fail
He gobbles up a gigantic bowl, but he’s skinny as a rail,
He pours on milk and whistles a tune
Stirring and stirring with a great big spoon,

Smack, smack, smack, and slurp, slurp, slurp
Drip, drip, drip, and burp, burp, burp,
He scrapes to the bottom to get the sugar beneath
And then when he’s done, he puts in his teeth,

How can he stand the texture, it’s like eating glue?
So slimy and bland, with a grayish hue,
Doesn’t he know how disgusting it seems?
I think I’ll stick with my Coco Puff Dreams!

This April I am participating in the A-Z Challenge

and the NaPoWroMo Challenge NaPoWriMo where I will write a post and a poem for each letter of the alphabet each day in April except for Sundays.

    1. I eat quite a lot of it, too, Shilpa. Brian makes it with blueberries in it. I like it but every now and then I'd prefer some cocoa puffs!

    1. I eat a lot of oatmeal, too, Shailaja. It's good stuff, especially on those cold winter mornings. I was having a memory of my grandfather whom we lived with for a while when I was a kid. He would slurp and slop his porridge without his teeth in. YUCK!

  3. I'm surprised Owen eats it without sugar in it as, well, oatmeal sure looks and tastes bland unless you add something to it... ;) <3

    1. But he does put sugar in, Elly. He scraped to the bottom to get it. Yes, oatmeal is good with things added.

  6. I like oatmeal on a cold winter's day, but always add fruit, otherwise it's too bland. ☺ Toothless Otis is a hoot!

    1. Thanks, Debbie. I based the character on my memories of my grandfather who lived with us when I was about 11. He would eat porridge without his teeth in and smack and slurp. Gross! I still remember it. Amazingly I still eat porridge and actually like it.

  7. I'm not really a cereal person but on a wet cold weekend day a hot bowl of oats is just divine. Cocoa puffs are delicious too :)
